Inquiry Planning
I'm thinking about doing my inquiry on play based learning.
Here's a quick video from our staff discussion today about it. My colleagues gave me some ideas about it.
Thanks Team! You're the best. Feel free to add any comments.

I think its great that you are starting to consider how your students can start learning through play. I like how you are asking lots of questions and challenging staff who are already doing PBL with their class , and asking them to justify and explain their ideas. Good luck with your inquiry. It's an exciting journey
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, I have been having dreams about play based learning. I'm not sure if they'd actually be called nightmares. I do feel really motivated to learn, but, yes, also hesitant. I'm definitely not an innovator or early adopter!
DeleteEven though you say you're 'behind the 8 ball ' with play-based learning, you are actually really open to this very new and a bit 'scary' way of learning and very thoughtful about the how, why and what is involved! Keep being brave and take little steps. Sarah from Longworth Education (The play-based learning 'gurus') says it takes 5 years get it 'happening' in a school!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kate, Yep, it'd be great to find out some more publications from the longworth education people. When I briefly looked at the website, there weren't very many 'articles' about play based learning.
DeleteI'd be interested in reading more research too - most of what I've found has been about play based learning in ECE rather than primary schools. I'd love to know more! It seems most schools in our area are embarking on play based learning , particularly in junior classes. Do you know if this is an all over Aotearoa trend? And do you have a definition of PBL? I had lots of experience with learning through play at Playcentre but I don't know if the picture I have in my head of that matches up with the vision for learning at Corinna. I have lots of questions and am looking forward to learning from your inquiry and PBL dreams (/ nightmares)!
ReplyDeleteBy the way I didn't post this at 2.07 am - it's only 9.07 pm ...
DeleteAs far as I am aware the research in a Primary school setting is limited unfortunately but through starting on the journey in my class the benefits are soooooo obvious and exciting. Its hard work! And grappling with the journey alongside the accountability that is still expected and, in my opinion, the lack of trust from above lol is forever on my mind. It has a been a journey of letting go and trusting the students urges and passions and supporting them with this. I still have a long way to go but am excited we are doing this together. It has really made me 'let go' and trust the journey.
